I never had to live with cane toads as a child here so coming across them was a little unexpected. During the day you hardly see them. But Mali and I soon discovered there are plenty when we took a walk. Behind our home there is a bush track that Mali can ride her bike to get to school so we decided to give it trial run by foot at dusk. The path

is mostly well lit but once the sun was down and we still 500mtrs from home the lights we no longer working and the cane toads were out! OMG how gross, they were crossing the track and Mali was holding on to me for dear life. Whilst not afraid myself, the thought of them is just repulsive, they are so big, so ugly and move so strangely. They also make a hell of racket scrambling around the bush. We won’t be doing that track again on foot and without some sort of light.
